Public Impact Research Initiative Grants

The Public Impact Research Initiative (PIRI) was established to recognize and support research that is cogenerated with community partners, is of mutual benefit, and has a positive public impact. Through this program we provide financial support for new collaborations or sustaining relationships that will support publicly engaged research with non-university partners. Applications are typically accepted beginning in November.

When COVID-19 isolated incarcerated people, Assistant Professor Ben Weber and the California Coalition for Women Prisoners launched a writing group to facilitate communication among individuals both on inside and outside of prison walls.

PIRI-Funded Project: Citizen Science in Prison Gardens

PIRI Grant recipients teamed with the Insight Garden Program to bring hands-on science opportunities to people in prison.
